Black project #5 Film

As part of the Black project Arco jacket release with C’H’C’M & Harris Tweed we decided to shoot a film in Glasgow with Brian Sweeney who has worked with the brand for many years.

Brian was also instrumental in introducing Mike Donald from http://thecroft.wordpress.com/ and in turn Mark Hogarth from Harris Tweed to Six Eight Seven Six.

These connections were formative in our understanding that we as a label could work with such a traditional supplier and that we could create a unique garment that still felt like a 6876 item.

New York & Glasgow: Two cities built on a grid system, both with a stand alone uniqueness and to this day when i visit Glasgow it always strikes me as a city yearning to the west and beyond.

Historically the colour of this particular yarn was known as “Newcastle”and appears to be a reference to Newcastle United Football club’s black and white stripe shirts.

CASHCA x 6876 #3

“In the years prior to establishing 6876 and in its formative period i collected many publications and artworks from a myriad of sources to further my understanding and interest in the counter cultural ideas of such groups as the Situationists,Red Army Faction,Red Brigade and The Weather underground.

Six Eight Seven Six utilized these images to develope the aesthetics of a non-conformist, non-corporate and independent organization.

In 1995 this seemed a logical and direct way to stand aside from the mainstream, however over time the use of such imagery/influences has at times become fetishised and misappropriated to the point where we’ve been content to consign this aesthetic as part of the brands evolution.

However this season as part of our collaboration with Kazuki I suggested we use some less well known images from the American counter cultural period of the late 1960’s that we had originally printed as T-shirts for circa 2003—2004 as after all, we are still 6876.

To be continued in 2015 as an anniversary project with classic and new imagery….” Kenneth Mackenzie 6-5-2014
